Group Appeals to PDP NEC

News

Dear Members of the National Executive Committee,

As you go into your NEC meeting, we want to remind you that democracy is not just about any result, it is about solid processes, transparency and accountability that leads to good results because it is through a transparent and accountable process that all interests are heard, respected and accommodated.

The recommendations made by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi-led zoning committee do not meet these basic criteria of democracy that a great party like our PDP should always defend and such recommendations must be therefore rejected.

Violating every norm, tradition and best practice, a committee mandated to analyze the zoning issue and expected to report to the National Executive Committee has gone on to make decisions without informing or listening to most party leaders and members.

To make matters worse, the committee then went to make press statements rather than submit their deliberations to the NEC thereby giving the impression that their position is final and that of the party.

The lack of transparency and little regard for due process with which the committee has acted on this matter has opened its operations to a lot of suspicions. Many are now doubting the real intentions of the committee and its recommendations.

It appears the recommendations of the committee are designed to punish some specific individuals and favour the ambition of some others. It appears that in pursuing their agenda they have no care for the party’s cohesion or victory of the PDP.

To punish some people and favour others, those behind these recommendations seem willing to upset any other interest and alienate most members of the party. Many in the party are suspecting a conspiracy led by one or two governors. Naturally, all these do not augur well for the party.

Luckily, we are a great party with a solid constitution and tested tradition, our party is made of bold and wise leaders that cannot be intimidated or manoeuvred by a few self-serving contrarians working just for self rather than for the victory of the party.

As you go into your NEC meeting, we appeal to you to put party first before the personal agenda of some. We call on you to find the boldness and lucidity to work together with your voices and votes to save this great party by rejecting the recommendation of the Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi- led zoning committee. Your efforts will save our party today, lead it to victory and save Nigeria tomorrow.
