A political support group on the platform of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Professional Women Council, has commended the wife of Nigeria’s President, Aisha Buhari and the APC National Women Leader, Dr Betta Edu, for making case for female aspirants vying for elective positions in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

The duo had at a recent forum charged the ruling APC not to use the excuse of giving women free nomination forms to relegate them to the background in the forthcoming general elections.

Their observation and plea came on the heels of the plethora of complaints from over 700 women vying for different positions on the platform of the ruling party said to be pressurized to step down and give way to their male counterparts.

The National Director, Professional Council Women, Ronke Soyombo, while commending them, said the outright rejection of the idea of relegating female aspirants by the nation’s First Lady has shown that she is a virtuous woman and a great leader.

Soyombo urged women to come together, get educated, enlightened and equipped to ensure their full participation in politics isn’t negotiable, especially in the 2023 forthcoming elections.

Also speaking, the group’s National Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Professional Women Council, Seyi Bamigbade, commended the President’s wife for making such a comment, which could further strengthen the interest of women in politics.

Bamigbade also commended the APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu’s, leadership style.

He admonished Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) as it is the only weapon to perform their civic responsibility in the forthcoming elections.

Recall that the APC had last month declared free nomination forms for female aspirants who intend to contest.
