The organisers of Life in My City Festival (LIMCAF), on Wednesday, lamented over low participation of young people in this year’s event.

The revelation was made by the Executive Director of LIMCAF, Chief Kelvin Ejiofor at the LIMCAF official Flag-off, held in Thought Pyramid Art Centre Lagos.

Speaking under the theme ‘Paradox Of Muted Echoes’, Ejiofor who is also a former, Director General of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria(FRCN), stated the development was a result of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) incessant strike.

First, all the universities have been on strike and we think that will be very difficult for young people and their guidance to have space to compete. We normally have entries up to 400, 500, 700 but, this year we have 270 entries the lowest in a long time.”

LIMCAF is the biggest youth art event in Nigeria featuring visual art competitions, and festival lectures among others.

The former FRCN boss added that since the inception of the event, entries for the exhibition had never been this low.

According to him, “there are eight other regions for this year including Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, Osun, Enugu, Auchi, Ondo, Portharcourt as well, and this year we have to shrink the number of regions because of ASUU strike.”

Meanwhile, during the opening remark, he appreciated the owner of Thought Pyramid Art Centre, art stakeholders, friends and some colleagues for their constant support in ensuring the day was a success.

While calling on other corporate organisations for sponsorship, he also commended MTN Nigeria Foundation for sponsorship. According to him, a sponsorship deal with MTN Nigeria Foundation has been on for years now.

“We are lucky that people like MTN Nigeria Foundation have come to rescue us and we can do this from a minimal and hope it will grow in the next years.”

Explaining further, “Everybody appreciates art but not everybody is able to manifest the appreciation. They would not know they are appreciating art because art is life. Look around and check the life around you.”
