Barring any dramatic event, it appears Deputy Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Wasiu Eshinlokun Sanni, is set to become the new Senator that will represent the Lagos Central Senatorial District. Eshinlokun-Sanni is the candidate of the APC and he seems to be facing no real opposition in the election slated for 25 February 2023.

The Lagos Central Senatorial District covers the local government areas of Apapa, Eti-Osa, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, and Surulere.

The district is currently covered with mainly posters and banners of the APC and those of Wasiu Eshinlokun Sanni. Residents of the major streets in the district told our reporters that so far, they have seen mostly canvassers from the APC. Though some residents might not vote for the APC they recognize that the APC team is doing a lot of hard work to convince people in their district.  

The Deputy Speaker’s team is confident and sure of victory “we have covered every corner of the district and the people are with us” says a senior member of the Deputy Speaker’s team, Habibat Lawal who is a very hold hand in the politics of Lagos State. “PDP knows that have no chance here that is why they are not even campaigning, all their candidate is doing for now is WhatsApp”, she adds with a confident laughter.

The candidate of the PDP, the main opposition party, Wale Gomez could not be reached at the time of filing this report. Wale Gomez a businessman surprisingly won the ticket to be candidate of the PDP in a controversial PDP primary election in May 2022.

Lagos Central Senatorial district is currently represented by Senator Oluremi Tinubu of the APC who was re-elected with 52.9% of the vote in the last election, she is not seeking re-election as she has opted to work for the election of her husband Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is the presidential candidate of the APC.
