The Navy Sailing Club new Commodore, Captain Festus Adewuyi has promised more productive activities, new boats for the club, and increase in investments, among other agenda.
He said in his acceptance speech that the club would witness accelerated progress during his era, assuring that things would get better with his focused leadership which promises to reposition the club.
Captain Adewuyi was elected as the Club Commodore of the Navy Sailing Club, Ojo, Lagos at its Annual General Meeting held over the weekend at the Rock View Hotel, Festac Town, Lagos.
He secured 56 out of 57 votes, representing 98 percent of the total votes thus making the required 50% mark as stated in the club’s constitution for the office of Club Commodore.
Chima Sampson was elected as the Vice Commodore with the same number of votes.
Other officials elected include: Simon Olabode as Rear Commodore, WO Monday Orji as Sailing Secretary, Vivian Osas as Membership Secretary, and Abdulsalam Jamailu as Works Secretary. In addition, Steven Krapeh was appointed General Secretary, succeeding Joe Apu, while Christopher Okonkwo and Monday Ibhagui were elected as Financial Secretary and Treasurer, respectively.
After the election, Commodore Adewuyi outlined his primary objective, which is to reposition the club and increase investment in athletes. “My focus will be on the infrastructural development of the club, particularly in active sailing competitions, including sailing, kayaking, and swimming.
“This will help our athletes compete at both national and potentially Olympic levels,” he stated.
Former Rear Commodore Hilary Egwue advised the newly elected executives to build on the existing foundations, while Board of Trustees member Alhaji Ismaila Kudaisi expressed optimism about the club’s future. “Despite the challenges we’ve faced recently, I’m pleased to see things improving. It’s crucial for the new board to continue with the reforms and maintain the unity that has defined us in the past,” Kudaisi remarked.
